Dry Run is an annual workshop designed to provide practical experience for new admission professionals.  The program provides training in relevant basic skills and discussion of pertinent issues and situations encountered in the admission profession.  Participants will attend presentations, engage in case studies, work within small-group settings, and participate in mock-situation settings.

Workshop participants will be assisted by volunteer “faculty.”  Conference faculty are current college counseling professionals and represent a variety of institutions (secondary and higher education, public and private).

The Dry Run 2012 schedule is still being finalized; however, the following sessions are likely to be offered:

  • Ethics, Etiquette, and Expectations
  • Event Planning
  • Hot Topics in Admissions
  • How to Balance Life and Admissions
  • International Student Recruitment
  • Making the Transition from Being a College Student to Being a College Professional
  • Mock Admissions Committee
  • Multiculturalism & Working with Students from Various Backgrounds
  • Presentation Skills
  • Prospect Management
  • Publications & Marketing
  • The Selection Process
  • Standardized Tests (ACT & SAT)
  • Student-Athletes & the NCAA
  • Tales From Our Experience
  • Territory & Travel Management
  • Transfer Student Recruitment
  • Using Volunteers in the Admissions Process
  • What Your Deans & Directors Expect Now

In addition, participants will break out for small group mentoring sessions with faculty members.  These sessions allow for more in-depth discussion, question and answer, and application of the material presented in conference sessions.  The program culminates with participants giving a short "dry run" presentation on their institution.
