Greetings from the Government Relations Committee!

The Government Relations Committee is responsible for monitoring federal and state legislation. It also monitors legislative initiatives pertinent to college admissions and primary and secondary school counseling among the states of the association. Finally, it maintains a symbiotic relationship with our national association's Government Relations Committee. Members are kept informed of activities through a column in the Southern Scope newsletter, information sessions at conferences and e-mail updates.

An exciting initiative for the committee is the "Day on the Hill," where members and associated professionals in the field of education will visit their respective state capitals. There they will encourage representatives to engage in legislation in support of our association's priorities, goals and work of the committee and will participate in the annual National Association for College Admission Counseling Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., in March. We hope that in addition to our national association's efforts on the federal level, our Southern members will maintain vigilance in their respective states. It is important to support counseling efforts among the state legislatures in their respective states. In fact, it is imperative for every member of our association to take an active role in communicating with elected legislators and providing feedback on issues which impact our students and our activities.

Each and every member's voice in our association can help make a difference! For more information on how to become more involved as a member of this committee, contact:
