So often, expertise in college counseling is acquired “on the job.” Each year Summer Seminar gathers seasoned professionals from both undergraduate admissions and secondary school college counseling to share "best practices" and address each aspect of a college counselor’s responsibilities. Participants will attend presentations, engage in case studies, work within small-group settings, and take part in mock admission situations.

Topics which will be addressed in detail include:

  • Ethics in College Counseling
  • Counseling Models and Calendars
  • Recommendation Letter and School Profiles
  • Programs for Students and Parents
  • The Admission Process
  • Special Talents and Athletics in Admission
  • Financial Assistance.

Summer Seminar will provide participants time to reflect, share ideas, and network.

A graduate of Summer Seminar 2009 had this to say about the program:  "I learned so much pertinent information that I was able to immediately incorporate into my job.  The instant network of professionals I met introduced me to the value of SACAC and I highly recommend this Seminar to all high school counselors."
