Each year Summer Seminar gathers seasoned professionals from both undergraduate admissions and secondary school college counseling to share "best practices" and address each aspect of a college counselor's responsibilities. Participants will attend presentation as well as visit college campuses throughout the Charlotte area during Summer Seminar.
Ideal attendee: 1st or 2nd year college counselor in a high school setting
Summer Seminar 2023 will be held at UNC Charlotte.
This year we are proud to announce that attendees will be able to earn 2 clock hours of continuing education credit by attending our sessions. The following sessions will receive 1 clock hour each:
The Intersection of DEI & Advocacy
Presenter: Lynn Stewart, Lake Highland Preparatory School (BA Politicial Science, Stephens College, MO; MA Counseling, Saint Louis University, MO)
-Participants will learn tips for navigating diverse student populations. Help students develop strong advocacy skills leading to success in college. Learn ways to address trending societal issues that impact student and counselor advocacy.

-The session focuses on strategies for creating a culture of personal wellness and professional growth and development. From the beginning counselor to the veteran with years of experience, taking time to process social and emotional issues in a safe and healthy space is instrumental to the role of a counselor.
