This session will help provide school counselors with an advanced understanding of how to effectively utilize trauma-informed practices to recognize the signs & symptoms of trauma, help create a physically & emotionally safe environment, establish trust & boundaries, support autonomy & choice, create collaborative relationships & participation opportunities & using a strengths & empowerment-focused perspective to promote resilience to reduce re-traumatization & promote healing. Paying for post-secondary education is an ever-growing concern for students & families; however, Federal Student Aid reports the FAFSA completion rate continues to be on a downward trend. This session will provide strategies counselors can implement within their community to increase FAFSA completion. SACAC & AAUW Florida Legislative Lobby Days
Join us as we head to Tallahassee to join with the American Association of University Women to lobby at the Capitol (400 S Monroe St, Tallahassee FL 32399) March 14 & 15. Please plan to travel March 13 to arrive in Tallahassee.
For those unable to attend in person, we invite you to join in the virtual session which will be held March 14 at 1 pm Eastern. NACAC Chief Education and Policy Officer David Hawkins will give an update.
A room block is available (starting March 13) at the TRYP by Wyndham Tallahassee North 1-10 Capital Circle (1978 Village Green Way, Tallahassee, FL 32308). Please call 850.204.4000 to make a reservation. The American Association of University Women (AAUW) group rate is $85.
Regarding transportation to/from the capitol, Rose Llanos (Florida GovRel Co-chair, RLlanos@lynn.edu) would be happy to coordinate and assist you with plans based on needs and point of departure. Indicate that on the registration form.
There will be a Zoom training on March 2nd to go over the legislative discussion for lobby days with AAUW for those attending. Please indicate on your registration form if you are interested in advocating for any additional bills via: Florida Legislature - Open States.
