Continuing Education Process

4-6 Months Prior to the Event

  • Carefully review the following information regarding continuing education prior to setting your agenda and recruiting presenters. Clock hour awarding is not guaranteed and must meet specific criteria per the National Board for Certified Counselors, our certification organization.
    • Schedule – clock hours are awarded in quarter hour increments, so please ensure your session lengths are in quarter hour increments.
    • Session content should be directly and primarily related to one or more of the following areas (Refer to section G of the Provider Policy for more details):
      • *Counseling Theory / Practice and the Counseling Relationship
      • Human Growth and Development
      • Social and Cultural Foundations (justice) (major societal concerns)
      • Group Dynamics and Counseling 
      • *Career Development and Counseling (resources) 
      • Assessment
      • Research and Program Evaluation
      • *Counselor Prof. Identity and Practice Issues (counselor advocacy) (emerging issues)
      • Wellness and Prevention
        • * = best content areas for SACAC
    • At least one presenter per session must meet the credentials outlined in section F of the Provider Policy to qualify for clock hours. In brief, the presenter must:
      • Hold a graduate degree in a mental health field; be qualified by appropriate education, experience, and/or training for the session content to be presented OR
      • Hold a graduate degree directly related to the session content; be qualified by appropriate education, experience, and/or training for the session content to be presented OR
      • Be qualified by appropriate education, experience, and/or training for the session content to be presented
    • Requests for continuing education must be submitted via the Submit the Continuing Education Pre-event Checklist form no fewer than 45 days from the workshop.

60 days prior to the event

    • Submit the Continuing Education Pre-event Checklist form, no fewer than 45 days from the workshop. You will need the following information:
      • *Drive-in Workshop Schedule (include designation of session breakouts for each session)
      • *Session Descriptions (one to two sentences 1 for each session)
      • *Speaker/Presenter Educational Background (include educational credentials/background for each presenter)
      • Evaluation Form (click here to see a sample)
    • After Continuing Education requests have been submitted, your program cannot be changed.

At the event

  • Keep track of attendance on the participant roster provided the day prior to the event by the Executive Assistant. Add any new participants to the list. Payment can be accepted at check in and should be recorded on the participant roster. 
  • Pass out two copies of the Continuing Education Log Form to each participant. One is for the participant to keep, the other is to be returned prior to leaving.
  • Using the log forms submitted, log the number of clock hours requested by each attendee on the participant roster.

Within 30 days after the event

  • Submit the Post-Event Summary Form. You will need the following information: 
    • Completed Roster of Program Participants
    • Summary of Participant Evaluations

Within 90 days after the event

  • Executive Assistant will email continuing education certificates to each participant who requested clock hours

The Southern Association for College Admission Counseling has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6805.  Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. SACAC is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
